Body Dysmorphia

Body Dysmorphia is a mental health disorder that induces distress over one's appearance. I chose to work with this topic as it personally resonates with me and reflects a challenge I face. Through this project, I wanted to shed light on the reality and complexities of Body Dysmorphia, emphasizing the struggle that comes with it, especially amongst women.

The first piece addresses a key contributor to Body Dysmorphia Disorder: social media. Platforms like Instagram and TikTok often reinforce the idea that being slim is the ideal body, which can cause insecurities, especially in people who do not fall into this category.

The second piece focuses on one’s belief of appearing overweight, particularly when faced with a mirror. The final piece illustrates the consequences of BDD—feelings of depression and isolation.

The main aim of this project was to express the feelings associated with this mental health issue. To convey these feelings I used darker tones. I also used yellow to drive the viewers attention to certain focal points.
